The invention provides methods and compositions for improved protein production. The method comprises the steps of: (a) introducing into a host cell a first nucleic acid 5 sequence comprising a signal sequence operably linked to a desired protein sequence; (b) expressing the first nucleic acid sequence; (c) co-expressing a second nucleic acid sequence encoding a chaperone or foldase selected from the group consisting of bip], erol, pdi1, tig], prp], ppil, ppi2, prp3, prp4, calnexin, and lhs]; and (d) collecting the desired protein secreted from the host cell. The first nucleic acid sequence optionally comprises an enzyme 10 sequence between the signal sequence and the desired protein sequence.
