<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a face image authentication device capable of securing individual acceptance even in a situation that it is difficult to authenticate an individual due to variation of an expression and a direction of a face or the like. <P>SOLUTION: Authentication candidate person specifying means 326 specifies an authentication candidate person from a plurality of registered persons on the basis of a similarity degree calculated by similarity degree calculation means 325. Detection rate calculation means 327 calculates a registered person detection rate which is a proportion of a frame in which the similarity degree to a plurality of latest facial area images traced by face tracking means 322 is the highest, for the authentication candidate person. Authentication threshold determination means 328 determines an authentication threshold which is a reference for authenticating whether or not a face included in the facial area image is the face of the registered person specified as the authentication candidate person, according to the registered person detection rate.
