The invention relates to the design of a retractable modular stator for an electric motor/generator, formed by one or more modules that can be moved radially or in any other direction that allows the separation between the rotor and the stator of the electric machine to be modified. Each stator module is formed by multiple windings, teeth, grooves and a corresponding yoke section. The main advantage of the invention is that it reduces the magnetic losses in the ferromagnetic core that often occur in electric motors or generators during operation in standby mode. The invention can also be used to reduce other losses associated with electric machines, such as losses through friction and losses through heating.
