<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spark erosion wire structure provided with a crushing γ phase brass surface layer, holding high machining efficiency during a cutting step, and providing a more excellent spark erosion characteristic during a finishing step, more concretely enabling a more smooth machined surface characterized by a waveform parameter Wt of less than 0.4. <P>SOLUTION: This electrode wire includes a brass core (1) coated with γ phase brass coating (2) having a structure to be crushed by blocks (2a). The core is exposed between the blocks. Each of the blocks (2a) has thickness (E2) provided with narrow distribution and provides a coating rate of the core (1) according to a coating rate larger than 50%.
