PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing an optically active mandelic acid amide derivative, and to provide the intermediate of the optically active mandelic acid amide derivative.

SOLUTION: The optically active mandelic acid amide derivative of (I) is efficiently produced with a preferable purity through two processes by causing a reaction product to go through compounds of (III) or (IV) from a compound of (II).
