The invention relates to a door arrester, in particular for a motor vehicle. The aim of the invention is to provide a door arrester, in particular for a door of a motor vehicle, that makes it possible to hold a door in a continuously variable manner with small installation space. In order to achieve said aim, a door arrester, in particular for holding a door of a motor vehicle, is provided with a pivotable control lever, which control lever separates a closed space filled with a liquid into two chambers, and with an apparatus that can conduct the liquid from one chamber into the other chamber when a pre-set pressure is exceeded.
