PURPOSE: A vacuum black body chamber for calibrating an infrared optical system is provided to minimize errors when compensating the infrared optical system by preventing a heat loss, thereby improving the reliability of the black body chamber. CONSTITUTION: A vacuum black body chamber comprises a black body(5), a thermoelectric element(6), a heat shield(7), a cold shield(8), and a lens(4). The thermoelectric element heats or cools the black body. The heat shield keeps a first space(9) surrounding the thermoelectric element and the black body warm so that the temperature of the first space is maintained. The cold shield keeps the first space and a second space(14) receiving the heat shield warm or cool for maintaining the temperature of the first and second spaces. The lens transmits only infrared frequencies of a predetermined band of the black body.
