PURPOSE: A phosphate-containing epoxy resin is provided to control the molecular weight distribution of the phenol novolak type epoxy resin, to reduce use amount of phosphate compound with high costs, to improve flame retardancy, and to improve physical properties of cured material while increasing productivity. CONSTITUTION: A phosphate-containing epoxy resin is formed by conducting reaction of a novolak type epoxy resin and a phosphate compound represented by chemical formula 1. The novolak type epoxy resin, in a gel permeation chromatography, has a double nuclei content of 15 area% or less, a triple nuclei content of 15-60 area%, and a number average molecular weight of 350-700. In chemical formula 1, each of R1 and R2 is hydrogen or hydrocarbon group; can form a ring with phosphate atom; and n is 0 or 1. |
