Embedded media, such as a video or an interactive image, is presented on a webpage. A metadata page, separate from the webpage, is provided with metadata tags which indicate viewing settings for the embedded media along with a redirect to the webpage. A URL relating to the embedded media is generated, which points to the metadata page. When the URL is shared on a third-party webpage, such as a social media site, the metadata is extracted from the metadata page, and the embedded media is displayed on the third-party page in accordance with the identified settings, whilst the URL still provides a link to the original webpage. The settings may include a timecode on a video, zoom level or other viewpoint for an interactive image, or any other parameter defining a point within the embedded media. The provision of the metadata page and the URL may be associated with a media viewer displaying the embedded media on the original webpage. This allows for more specific sharing of embedded media without the need for complex metadata management arrangements.
