The cooling or freezing appliance has a component which is operable in an operating mode in which the component emits noises in a temporary manner. A unit of the appliance is directly or indirectly connected to another component, such that the component is operated in another operating mode at the instigation of the unit. The component is operable in a low-noise operation, and emits less noise than in the former operating mode. The unit is formed by a control element which is actuable by a user.
