In apparatus for the spray painting of intermittently or continuously conveyed objects such as cars, provided with channels which are ventilated by means of air supplied above the channels and discharge through the floor, a chamber is <PICT:0935858/III/1> provided communicating with the channel through a grille and extending substantially the whole width of the channel and provided with a liquid reservoir beneath the grille, the chamber being made with water splashed side walls, each provided with a longitudinal slot for the discharge of the air to vertical shafts mounted on each side of the channel and provided with inclined and if desired water splashed deflector plates, the slots being formed for example in tapered projecting parts in the side walls right above the liquid reservoir and dimensioned to afford the out-flowing air a speed which is suffcient to disintegrate the liquid ejected from the liquid reservoir and the liquid film on the walls, and to give the air stream the desired direction. As shown, a channel 1 is provided with air inlet and filtering means 4, a grille 7, and a chamber 6 containing a liquid reservoir 8. The side walls 9a, 9b of the chamber are splashed with water by means of devices 10a, 10b and are provided with slots 11a, 11b through which the ventilating air escapes, and in so doing disrupts the film of liquid flowing down the side walls and the liquid overflowing from the reservoir 8.
