The invention relates to a method for producing a thermosetting polymer, in particular a polymer group, wherein the method comprises at least: mixing a protein, aliphatic alcohol, and aldehyde in an acid medium; thermocompressing the mixture such that the alcohol and aldehyde react with the protein so as to yield a compound combining an imine function and an ester function of formula (I), where: P is said protein, R and R' are selected from among, but not limited to, the most common alkyl radicals, i.e. not only from among the latter (formula II).
