The device (1) has a shifting element (2) moveable to a housing for selecting or shifting gears or alleys. Cylindrical-shaped limiting units are assigned to the gears or lanes and form stop parts for limiting shifting and/or selecting movements. End positions of the shifting and/or selecting movements are adjusted via the stop parts such that production-related tolerances of the device are compensated. The limiting units are directly supported in the end positions at the shifting element and the housing. The limiting units comprise a cylindrical portion (8) on an outer surface (9).
