Apparatus designed to give the operator the impression of air travel, comprises a housing provided at one side with a translucent viewing screen and containing a point source of light spaced from the screen together with an endless band comprising pictorial matter in the form of a transparency, one run of the band being arranged to pass between the light and the screen and being nearer the screen at the top of the latter than at the bottom. Thus the image seen gets progressively larger as it passes downwards past the screen, and creates an impression of travelling forwards. Moreover, the light is vertically adjustable, the resultant effect on the image viewed being such as to give the impression of diving or climbing. As particularly described, the apparatus comprises a housing 2 provided with a screen 3 and containing a lamp 10 mounted for vertical adjustment by manipulating the handle 19, together with an endless band 9 bearing pictorial material guided over rollers 4, 5 and 6, of which the latter is driven by motor 7, the speed of which is controlled by a rheostat adjusted by means of handle 22. The apparatus also comprises the silhouette 23 of a plane mounted for vertical and arcuate adjustment in response to movement of the control wheel 29. Specification 996,127 is referred to. |
