The surface detection and/or generation device provides 3-dimensional data for a tooth stump or implant post and its surroundings, used for manufacture of a tooth prosthesis primary element, with determination of the fitting path for attaching the tooth prosthesis primary element to the denture stump or implant post. The 3-dimensional data for the primary element fitted to the tooth stump or implant post is used for generation of a tooth prosthesis final element, a defined fitting path for the latter determined by the primary element. An independent claim for a surface detection and/or generation method is also included.
