<p>The device (10) has a control unit determining a combination of predetermined cooking parameters as a function of specific surface area of a unitary element. An ingredient of a predetermined recipe e.g. goulash, is inserted into a cooking chamber of a cooking appliance (1). The specific surface area is estimated from descriptive parameters of the unitary element or from the ingredient that is selected from a group of ingredients of the predetermined recipe.
