PURPOSE: A composition containing a Hericium erinaceum extract for preventing or treating brain damages is provided to suppress the apoptosis of nerve cells, and to be used as a material of functional health food. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating brain damage contains a Hericium erinaceum extract as an active ingredient. The extract contains 40-250mg/kg of ethanol extract. The brain damage is epilepsy or seizure induced by pilocarpine. Health functional food for preventing or treating brain damage contains the extract as an active ingredient.
