PURPOSE: A timing controller and a method for compressing target register configuration data are provided to reduce the capacity of an external nonvolatile memory by encoding the target register configuration data in the external nonvolatile memory. CONSTITUTION: An external nonvolatile memory(8b) stores encoded target register configuration data. A timing control unit(8a) includes a register(8c) and a decoder(8d). A register stores a default register data value for timing control and option setting. A decoder decodes the encoded target register configuration data stored in the external nonvolatile memory.
