PURPOSE: A light emitting device and a light emitting device controlling method are provided to extend the lifetime of a light emitting element by decreasing the irradiation amount of the light emitting device when the temperature of the light emitting device increases. CONSTITUTION: A light emitting module(20) comprises a plurality of LED package(10). A control unit(40) determines the number of LED package in a specific section in which making the selected brightness is possible. A switch unit(30) operates to apply the current to the LED package which corresponds to the number which is determined in the control unit. A memory unit(50) stores the irradiation amount of the LED package in the specific section. A temperature measuring unit(60) measures the temperature of the light emitting module.
