<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease discharge voltage to save electrode consumption. <P>SOLUTION: A center electrode 41 is set to be positive and an earth electrode 42 is set to be negative, and then discharge (positive discharge) is performed. After the potential difference between the center electrode 41 and the earth electrode 42 reaches a specified voltage, an increased velocity of the potential difference is set so that discharge begins before a specified amount or more of positive spatial charge (positive ion cloud CI) remaining around the center electrode 41 is generated. Thereby, an effect decreasing the degree of prevention of spark expansion by the positive ion cloud CI and an effect of thermal electron emission by positive discharge are produced, so that a voltage (required voltage) required for discharge beginning of an ignition plug is decreased and electrode consumption is saved. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
