<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a load on a toner bottle motor to determine whether or not a toner bottle needs to be replaced. <P>SOLUTION: If it is determined that there is no toner left in a hopper (S102), a bottle motor is driven (S103) to measure a load on the bottle motor (S104). Then it is determined whether or not the load is below a threshold (S105). If the load has reached or exceeded the threshold, it is estimated that there is still toner in a toner bottle.
