PURPOSE: A method for screening a material which regulates skin pigmentation is provided to screen a material for regulating skin pigmentation, and to effectively treat hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation by regulating intracellular and intercellular signal transduction faction and transcription factor. CONSTITUTION: A method for screening a material which regulates skin pigmentation comprises: a step of treating one or more gene selected from the group consisting of IFN gamma, IL4, IL17, IL6, STAT3, STAT6, JAK1, JAK2, and JAK3 with a candidate material; and a step of selecting a candidate material which enhances or reduces gene expression as a material which regulates skin pigmentation. A candidate material which enhances gene expression is selected as a useful material which possibly suppresses pigmentation. A candidate material which reduces gene expression is selected as a useful material which possibly enhances skin pigmentation.
