A coated textile or foil material comprises a textile or foil material carrying on one side a porous coherent coating which consists of individual, irregularly formed, elongated rubber particles which have a length of 3 to 20 mm and a diameter of 0.3 to 3 mm which are bonded together at their points of contact by elastic or thermoplastic bonding agents. The layer of adhesive may be situated between the textile or foil material and the coating. The coating may contain granular rubber particles in addition to the irregularly formed, elongated rubber particles. The bonding agent may be natural or synthetic rubber, or a thermoplastic resin e.g. polyvinyl or polyvinylidene chloride, polyvinyl acetate, polyacrylic or polymethacrylic acid ester. The coating may be from 1 to 50 mm thick. The textile or foil material may be a tufted carpet, woven, knitted, or warp knitted textile material, which may be made from natural or synthetic fibres e.g. wool, cotton, regenerated cellulose, rayon, hemp, flax, ramie, sisal, jute, horsehair, asbestos, glass, polyvinyl or polyvinylidene chloride, polyacrylonitrile, polyethylene, polypropylene, polyamides, and polyesters; foils of natural or synthetic rubber, synthetic resins or mixtures thereof e.g. polymers and copolymers of butadiene, isoprene, chloroprene, styrene, chlorostyrene, acrylonitrile, methacrylonitrile, acrylic or methacrylic acid ester, ethylene, propylene, butylene, isobutylene, vinyl and vinylidene chloride, and vinyl acetate. The foil may be profiled or perforated. |
