<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for monitoring particulate matters capable of simply monitoring a change in properties of the particulate matters by waveform analysis despite fluctuation in output levels of a sensor. <P>SOLUTION: Outputs of acoustic emission sensors 2 and 3 that are mounted on the external wall or the internal wall of a container 1A are stored in a data collection storage device 4. A data processing arithmetic device 5 converts the outputs of the sensors into power spectra of frequency components. A change in properties of the particulate matters is monitored based on a temporal change in a distribution state of the power spectra of the frequency components.
