<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmission type X-ray tube and a reflection type X-ray tube that use a filter material for removing unnecessary radiation. <P>SOLUTION: A transmission type X-ray tube includes a target material and a filter material. The target material includes at least one type of element, and exciting the element generates X-rays. The X-rays have energy of Kα and Kβ characteristic radiations of the element. These radiations are used to form an image of an object by collision of the X-rays. The filter material, which the X-rays pass through, has K absorption edge energy. The K absorption edge energy is higher than energy of an emitted Kα radiation and lower than energy of a Kβ radiation.
