<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drum type washing machine that is capable of maintaining washing water to a desired chlorine concentration even when much chlorine component of electrolytic water is consumed by dirt and a detergent. <P>SOLUTION: The washing machine includes: a washing tub 2 for housing laundry and rotating; an outer tub 3 for housing the washing tub 2; a first water supply valve 8 for supplying tap water to the washing tub 2 or the outer tub 3; an electrolytic device 19 for producing electrolytic water; washing water state detection means 21 for detecting a state of washing water; and control means 22 for controlling the electrolytic device 19 and the washing water state detection means 21 to carry out washing and rinsing processes. The control means 22 increases an input amount of electrolytic water as an amount of detergent or an amount of dirt in washing water detected by the washing water state detection means 21 increases.
