<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method which detects an abnormality as abnormality in state of a paper sheet alignment, abnormality in shape of a folded paper sheet, or abnormality of the thickness of the folded paper sheet. <P>SOLUTION: The method includes: aligning a plurality of folded paper sheets; irradiating the folded paper sheets with light to generate bright portions 5 on back portions and shadow portions 6 in recessed portions between back portions; taking an image with a TV camera 7; separating the image signal thus obtained into three primary colors; converting the colors into multiple-valued color intensity signals; comparing color intensity signals in respective points constituting one horizontal scanning line, with a line of flexure as a calculated reference, for color intensity in each constituent point; conducting comparison with signals in constituent points that have high color intensity and are respectively before and after the signal, for a plurality of points in the one horizontal scanning line; determining the portion to be a non-shadow portion when the color intensity in the constituent points is higher than the color density of all the comparison points before and after the point; cumulating the determined bright portion as a paper sheet; and comparing the number of constituent points between the bright portions in counting the number of paper sheets to detect an abnormal condition of paper sheets. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
