<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain expression of strength and improvement in filling property in an environmentally-compatible mold material using casting sand including alkali silicate as binder, and inorganic spherical amorphous silica or spherical amorphous alumina as fluidizer and hardening aid. <P>SOLUTION: The mold material is obtained by adding, to the casting sand 2 including the alkali silicate 3 as binder, an amorphous spherical body 1 composed of at least either one of acidic spherical amorphous silica and acidic spherical amorphous alumina as fluidizer and hardening aid. The amorphous spherical body has preferably an average particle size of 10 μm or less, and a surfactant for imparting flow property may be further added.
