<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure excellent sheet alignment accuracy even if a placing means is reciprocated in a direction orthogonal to the sheet conveying direction to sort sheets. <P>SOLUTION: A sheet processing device includes a shift tray 202 for placing conveyed sheets, a shift mechanism which sorts the sheets by reciprocating the shift tray 202 in a direction orthogonal to the sheet conveying direction, a pressing member 220 which presses rear ends in the conveying direction of the sheets to be placed on the shift tray 202, and a roller 228a which is provided on the pressing member 220 and rotatable in the direction orthogonal to the sheet conveying direction.
