PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for avoiding a collision are provided to prevent the collision with a surface by recognizing the front side and the lateral side of an aircraft and a terrain. CONSTITUTION: The maximum allowable load coefficient is inputted to an aircraft estimation track generating module(122). High resolution satellite image terrain data, obstacle data, and anti-air treat data are inputted to a proximity terrain generating module. A search range setting module(123) sets a search range by receiving the latitude, the longitude, the altitude, and the gas coordinate speed, and the posture angle of an aircraft. A terrain and track comparing module(124) analyzes the state of the aircraft and the contents of various databases generated from the proximity terrain generating module and the aircraft estimation track generating module. A situation recognizing module(125) outputs various warnings according to the state of the aircraft and the contents of various databases.
