<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove deposits even if an unburned gas contained in an exhaust gas is attached to and deposited on movable parts 21, 27 to 29 in a variable displacement turbocharger 1 equipped with a variable nozzle unit 7 which can change a capacity for discharging the exhaust gas discharged from a scroll passage 5a of a turbine housing 5 to an exhaust port 5b via a turbine wheel 2. <P>SOLUTION: In a communicating portion for communication between the scroll passage 5a and an annular space 9, a first nozzle plate 11 is disposed so as to plug the communicating portion, and some of the movable parts 21, 27 to 29 are disposed in the annular space 9. In the first nozzle plate 11, a through-hole 41 is provided which allows the exhaust gas to flow into the annular space 9 from the scroll passage 5a.
