<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotor of a permanent magnet rotary electric machine that has excellent properties while preventing problems caused by abrasion powder, and to provide a permanent magnet rotary electric machine provided with the same. <P>SOLUTION: A permanent magnet rotary electric machine 10 comprises a rotor 1. The rotor 1 comprises: a rotor core 3 that has a plurality of laminated magnetic steel sheets 30; and permanent magnets 53 that are embedded in respective magnet housing holes 32 that are bored through the rotor core 3 in an axial direction of a rotation shaft. At least one of the magnetic steel sheets 30 comprises: a communicating portion 33 that allows each magnet housing hole 32 to communicate with an outer edge 34. A side, closer to the outer edge 34 than each permanent magnet 53, of at least one of each communicating portion 33 and each magnet housing hole 32 is blocked with a blocking member 2.
