PURPOSE: A fault-tolerant controller of an MDPS(Motor Driven Power Steering System) and a controlling method of the same are provided to perform a fault-tolerant control in the malfunction of the MDPS with a minimum cost. CONSTITUTION: A fault-tolerant controller of an MDPS comprises a virtual steering angle production part(210) and an MDPS malfunction mode change part(220) inside an ESC(Electronic Stability Control) ECU(Electronic Control Unit)(20). The virtual steering angle production part transmits a virtual steering angle value which is not a steering angle sensor value to an ESC(Electronic Stability Control) controller(230) when an MDPS motor malfunction flag is set up. The MDPS malfunction mode change part sets up an MDPS motor malfunction flag in the malfunction of the MDPS motor.
