<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operation display device for a washing machine, the display having an excellent appearance, capable of displaying an operation mode in an easily understandable manner for a user even at a position apart from the washing machine. <P>SOLUTION: An operation display device comprises: a liquid crystal display panel 28; a backlight 31 having light sources capable emitting at least three different colors from the back surface of the liquid crystal display panel 28; and a controller 38 on which an operation switch 39, the liquid crystal display panel 28 and the backlight 31 are loaded. Since the backlight 31 irradiates the liquid crystal display panel 28 with different colors of light for each step of washing, rinsing, spinning, and drying, a user can easily discriminate an operation mode by a color of the liquid crystal display panel even at a position apart from the washing machine.
