<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading device and an image reading method of the same for preventing the occurrence of a white jump phenomenon of an object to be photographed (e.g., a book) by lighting, and for appropriately detecting lines of edges of the object to be photographed. <P>SOLUTION: An image reading device 100 comprises: an arm 102 that can be expanded and contracted in a direction for changing a distance between a photographing unit 101 and a manuscript mounting surface (a photographing surface); and a light source unit 105 provided at the arm 102 for diagonally illuminating a book (an object to be photographed) placed on the photographing surface. The image reading device 100 also comprises: a data obtaining unit for obtaining photographed data including shadow portions generated at edges of the book by the light source unit 105 diagonally illuminating the book; and an edge detecting unit for detecting edge features of the object to be photographed on the basis of the photographed data obtained. The edge detecting unit detects the edge features when a predetermined number or more of binarized data continuously occur on lines of edge faces of the object to be photographed. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
