A jib crane comprising upright columns 10 and a jib 15 pivotally mounted for slueing and luffing at 14 on a ship's deck has a pulley block 20 or other load suspension means suspended from the jib by divergent rope reaches 21<SP>1</SP> which pass over pulley means 16, 19 mounted respectively at the end of the jib and the ends of a transverse outrigger frame 17. A single rope 21, the ends of which are wound in the same direction on the drum 22 of a winch 13, passes over a pulley 12 to similar pulley blocks 16 before passing round the pulley block 20 to the outrigger pulley blocks 19. The rope ends may pass over separate drums which may be operated independently. The three suspension rope reaches 21<SP>1</SP> dampen the pendulous motion resulting at the end of slueing and luffing movements.</p> |
