摘要 A process for regenerating an adsorbent bed which has been deactivated by, for example, dehydration of a hydrocarbon comprises contacting said adsorbent with a liquid hydrocarbon diluent inert to said hydrocarbon to remove residual amounts of said hydrocarbon, contacting said adsorbent with said diluent in a superheated and vaporized state, and thereafter contacting said adsorbent with said diluent in the liquid state to cool said adsorbent. The diluent may itself be dried by an adsorbent bed subsequently regenerated by the aforementioned process, and the hydrocarbon to be dried and the regenerating diluent may therefore be the same. Prior to contacting the adsorbent bed with superheated diluent vapour, residual diluent in the bed may be removed by purging with nitrogen. The hydrocarbon to be dried may be a conjugated diene subsequently polymerized in the presence of said liquid diluent. Diluents specified are paraffins, cycloparaffins, aromatics, or any mixtures thereof, in particular propane, butane, iso-octane, cyclohexane, methyl-cyclohexane, benzene and toluene. Adsorbents specified are bauxite, activated alumina and silica gel. The adsorbent is preferably contacted with the diluent vapour at 250 DEG to 600 DEG F., and subsequently cooled to 32 DEG to 150 DEG F. An example relates to the dehydration of 1,3 butadiene in an alumina bed regenerated using a toluene as the diluent.
