<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve both suppression in a surge voltage and reduction in a switching loss by controlling a switching speed depending on an operation mode, in a power converter including a plurality of switching elements. <P>SOLUTION: A power converter 50 has: a first operation mode in which switching elements S1-S4 are on-off controlled independently to conduct power conversion between DC power supplies 10 and 20 and a load 30; and a second operation mode in which each two of the switching elements S1-S4 are commonly on-off controlled to conduct power conversion between the DC power supply 10 or 20 and the load 30. A switching speed at turn-on and turn-off of each of the switching elements S1-S4 is controlled depending on the operation mode.
