An organosilane having the formula where R is an alkyl or cycloalkyl group having 4 to 30 carbon atoms comprising or alternatively consisting of an alkyl chain of 4 or more carbon atoms or an aryl or aralkyl group comprising a benzene ring, and R' and R'' each represent hydrogen or an alkyl group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, a cycloalkyl group having 5 to 20 carbon atoms or a phenyl group, as a hydrophobing agent for a construction material or for a textile material or for a particulate filler.
