The utility model relates to a device used for detecting an edge defect of a fiber web in a fiber web machine. The device comprises a fiber web supporting piece used for supporting at least one surface of the fiber web and an edge defect detector used for confirming edge defects. The edge defect defector is provided with at least one sensor used for detecting at least one edge of the fiber web. The edge defect defector is arranged outside the edge of the fiber web, and is designed into a detection component detecting the fiber web by means of at least two different wavelengths through infrared measurement. Compared with the prior art, the device can be reliably used for detecting the edge defect of the fiber web.
