The key (10) has an electronic unit (40) arranged in a key body, and a data carrier unit (30) i.e. smart card, arranged between a protective position and a contact position. A universal serial bus (USB)interface (31) of the carrier unit is protected against mechanical damage by the key body in the protective position. The interface is contactable at the key body in the contact position. An electric contact is formed between the carrier unit and the electronic unit in the protective and contact positions. The carrier unit and the electronic unit comprise two contact elements.
