The method involves transmitting a signal portion, particularly preamble signal before transmission of useful data packet for determining and subsequent adjustment of the gain on attenuation of the transmission channel. The value for the time integral value of the signal portion amplified and received from the receiver portion is determined. The appropriate clipping is performed, and the amplifier is overridden. The signal portion with the applied gain theoretically existing amplitude (A') is determined without clipping or without output signal limitation existing amplitude. An independent claim is included for a receiver with a unit for determining an integral value of a preamble signal.
