<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compression device capable of compressing and discharging paper sheet pieces without clogging of the paper sheet pieces, and easy to change the degree of compression. <P>SOLUTION: The compression device includes a compression chamber 304 having a carry-in port and a discharge port of paper sheet pieces, and a paper sheet piece compression mechanism part 331 arranged at the carry-in port. An openable/closable pressure wall 309, and a pressing member 310 for applying a predetermined pressure in the closing direction of the pressure wall are arranged at the discharge port of the compression chamber. The compression chamber is, for example, a cylindrical member having no step in the inside diameter.
