In the present invention, a method for producing a target substance is performed on a bacterium that has the ability to produce a target substance which is 2-ketoglutaric acid or a derivative thereof, the ability to produce xylonic acid from xylose, and for which xylonate dehydratase activity, 2-keto-3-deoxyxylonate dehydratase activity, and 2-ketoglutaric acid semialdehyde dehydrogenase activity have been imparted or enhanced. The bacterium is cultured in a medium containing xylose as the carbon source, the target substance is produced and allowed to accumulate in the culture medium, and the target substance is collected from the culture medium. |
