ILLUMINATION DEVICES AND METHODS FOR MAKING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide illumination devices, particularly illumination devices utilizing light transmissive layers, and methods for making the same.

SOLUTION: A device 10 particularly includes a substrate 12 and conductive region disposed on the substrate. One or more light sources 14, such as LEDs, are disposed on a surface of the substrate and electrically coupled to the conductive region for supply of electric current. The device 10 also includes one or more light transmissive layers 16 disposed on the substrate 12 and the at least one light source 14 to encapsulate the light source 14 and also to control characteristics of light delivery from the light sources 14 when light passes through the light transmissive layers 16.
