<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tape cassette capable of prolonging the housing length of a thermosensitive tape to be housed, and of preventing discoloration or the like of the tape due to light. <P>SOLUTION: The tape cassette is provided with: a tape spool on which a long thermosensitive tape is wound rotatably; an opening in which a thermal head for printing to the tape is inserted; a long light-blocking tape which is superposed to the printed surface of the thermosensitive tape at the upstream side in a tape-conveying direction of the opening to enter it together with the thermosensitive tape, and blocks light toward that tape; a separation part separating the light-blocking tape from the thermosensitive tape at the downstream side of the tape-conveying direction with respect to the opening to guide the light-blocking tape inside; and a tape discharge port to which the thermosensitive tape from which the light-blocking tape is separated is discharged.
