<p>The present technology relates to an image processing device, method, and program which enable a region corresponding to a desired direction to be cut out from a panoramic image in a simpler and faster manner. When cutting out a region corresponding to a specific viewing direction from a panoramic image projected onto a spherical surface and displaying the same, the image processing device displays, as an output image, the region of the panoramic image projected onto a virtual screen determined by the specified viewing direction. More specifically, the image processing device calculates the positions of the pixels of the panoramic image to be projected onto the screen with an approximation function, and generates the output image. At this point, the image processing device evaluates approximation errors caused by the approximation function. Specifically, when obtaining the positions of the pixels of the panoramic image corresponding to positions within a write region of the screen using one approximation function, the image processing device determines the range of the write region such that the approximation errors will not be more than a permissible amount. This technology can be applied to image processing devices.</p> |
