<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To dispense with a frame memory for synchronizing lighting control of a backlight with drive control of a liquid crystal panel, to attain simplification of a liquid crystal display device and reduction of cost and to effectively enhance brightness of a video, by speeding up the lighting control of the backlight and preventing the occurrence of delay. <P>SOLUTION: A backlight control section 24 that is provided in the liquid crystal display device for displaying a video, determines first luminance in each area of the backlight for illuminating each area of the video on the basis of information of the luminance of each area of the video, for each area of the backlight, uniformly multiplies the first luminance of each area by a fixed magnification set according to the genre of the video to set second luminance of each area of the backlight and controls lighting of each area of the backlight using the second luminance of each area, for each area of the backlight. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
