<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an oxide-based positive electrode active material with a small mixing amount of impurities, a positive electrode active material, and a secondary battery using the same. <P>SOLUTION: There is provided a method for manufacturing a positive electrode active material. The method includes the steps of: dissolving and blending a compound containing Li, a compound containing Ni and a compound containing M (M represents an element that can be hexacoordinated, when M is quadrivalent.) in a solvent at such a ratio that a proportion of the element of each compound, in terms of atomic ratio, is Li:Ni:M=1:0.5:1.5 to obtain a mixed liquid; obtaining a positive electrode active material precursor by heating and condensing the obtained mixed liquid; and calcining the obtained positive electrode active material precursor at a temperature of 425°C or more and less than 800°C in the air to generate the positive electrode active material represented by a formula: LiNi<SB POS="POST">0.5</SB>M<SB POS="POST">1.5</SB>O<SB POS="POST">4</SB>.
