Base for an orthodontic appliance, comprising a base surface (11) adapted to be attached to a tooth and a plurality of protrusions (12) protruding from said base surface and extending along a first direction 1 substantially from a first edge (13) of the base surface (11) to a second edge (14) of the base surface, a second direction being defined as perpendicular to said base surface (11), wherein the distance between two of said protrusions (12) in a plane substantially perpendicular to said first direction 1 along at least a portion of said protrusions (12) is smaller than the distance between said two protrusions at the base surface, and wherein the distance c between two of said protrusions in planes substantially perpendicular to said second direction at said first edge and said second edge is larger than a distance d between said two protrusions at a point in this plane between said first and said second edge.
